Skin of Colour Webinar Series

Webinar 3: Common Disease Presentations in Skin of Colour

13 August 2024

18:30 – 19:30

In collaboration with

Chair: Teena Mackenzie, Education and Development Lead, BDNG

Speaker: Modupe Soji-Adeyemo, Clinical Nurse Specialist, Guys and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust

Differences in skin colour among individuals is caused by variation in pigmentation, which is the result of genetics, exposure to the sun, disorders, or some combination thereof.  There is an underrepresentation of dark skin tones (DST) images in our textbooks. As nurses in dermatology, we need to be familiar with assessing, diagnosing, and treating patients with skin of colour

Learning outcomes

  • To expose participants to the various skin tone images that reflect the community and population they serve.
  • To educate around complexities of skin tones in the context of dermatological disease
  • To encourage the inclusion of DST images in teaching-learning materials
